The Open University, in partnership with the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a roundtable which brings business leaders together to discuss how we can develop a more effective strategy for growing skills and keeping them local.
The need to boost productivity, jobs, skills and living standards in the North of England has long been on the policy agenda. It is clear that inequalities between North and South have encouraged the brightest talent to leave regional towns and find opportunities to further their education and careers – and this has a huge impact on business competitiveness.
With devolution and Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs) offering more opportunities for a local approach to skills, we aim to explore some of the issues arising from the Business Barometer report – The Open University’s annual report into the skills landscape of the UK. We will discuss the need for more flexible training solutions and how organisations can learn from best practice to solve their skills shortages.
The event is open to local Chamber members, please get in touch if you’d like to find out more about booking a place.
