Level 6 Certificate in Career Guidance Theory

Who is it for?

To achieve this qualification, you will be undertaking a professional role within the careers guidance sector and delivering in depth careers guidance to clients. This qualification comprises of the three ‘theory’ based units from the Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development and it is designed for those who either wish to upgrade their existing pre-2011 Level 4 Advice and Guidance qualification, to meet the entry requirements for the Career Development Institute Register of Professionals OR for those who are looking to complete a smaller qualification in Careers, for Continuing Professional Development or to update practice.

What topics does the qualification cover?

  • Reflect on and improve professional practice will ask you to measure and evaluate your performance against targets or standards.  You will also need to demonstrate how you use a Personal Development Plan to improve your practice.
  • Career guidance theory aims to develop your critical understanding of career guidance theories, models for supporting clients and the role of research in informing and developing career guidance practice.
  • Use Career and Labour Market Information with clients will enable you to carry out research to develop your knowledge and to show how you use this in your work with clients.  

Programme structure

You will provide evidence of your work practice, including completing assignments, case studies, written accounts and providing work products. Evidence is uploaded to an e-portfolio which is available 24/7 on computers, tablets and mobile devices.

An Open University assessor will observe work-based practice on at least one occasion, assess evidence uploaded to the e-portfolio and provide developmental feedback.

You will have access through VQLearner Home to online resources specific to your qualification and links to suggested further study with The Open University.

Support will be provided throughout the qualification by the VQAC Learner Support Team.
