Celebrating Citizenship Studies

You are cordially invited to join us on Wednesday 30 November 2016 (10:30-16:30) for the event ‘Celebrating Citizenship Studies at The Open University’ being held in the Christodoulou Meeting Rooms (CMR), Walton Hall. We are organising this event on behalf of Engin Isin as he will be leaving the university by the end of this year to take up a position at QMUL. The event is jointly hosted and supported by the Citizenship & Governance Strategic Research Area (C&G SRA), the Centre for Citizenship, Identities, and Governance (CCIG) and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS).

Since 2004 research at The Open University has addressed many contemporary social and political issues revolving around citizenship, identities, and governance. Carried out primarily through the Centre for Citizenship, Identities, and Governance (CCIG) in the Faculty of Social Sciences, citizenship research more recently has expanded to the Citizenship & Governance Strategic Research Area (C&G SRA) as a cross-faculty research area and a Citizenship Pathway in Doctoral Training Programme with Oxford University as a cross-university teaching area. With the formation of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), a new generation of research is now shaping an agenda on citizenship. This event features some of this new research and provides a glimpse of the OU’s contribution to addressing the multiple crises of democracy, citizenship and governance in the UK and Europe.
