New Vacancy - Lecturer in Policing Organisation and Practice (Police Secondee)

Open to Police Officers and Staff from our 24 member police agencies (See CPRL partners) with the relevant qualifications and experience.

Salary – This secondment is aligned to the Lecturer salary scales and police base salary will be matched in line with this. £33,797 - £49,553.

Come and be part of the expansion of Policing at The Open University!

As part of our ongoing expansion we are looking to appoint a Lectureship in Policing Organisation and Practice (Police Secondee). The appointee will be expected to contribute mainly to the design and delivery of work-based learning modules for our policing programmes. You will work closely with our module team within the Department of Policing Organisation and Practice to explore and develop a range of possible models of delivery; and contribute to learning design; assessment strategy and support for students working and learning within a police environment. The secondee will also be offered time to work on a discrete research project within our Centre for Policing Research and Learning (CPRL) which will be supervised by an academic member of the team (non-compulsory).

Secondees will gain experience of working collaboratively with the Higher Education (HE) sector; designing and writing online learning materials; developing innovative digital learning tools; and working collaboratively with police organisations nationally.
Applicants will have professional experience of one of the six core areas of areas policing:

(i) Community and Neighbourhood Policing;
(ii) Criminal Investigation;
(iii) Response Policing;
(iv) Policing the Roads;
(v) Information and intelligence;
(vi) Digital Policing;

We are also looking for applicants with experience of designing and supporting learning for Police Community Support Officers (desirable not essential).

More specifically you will have professional expertise that can contribute to the design and writing of practice-based learning materials and assessment. You will have excellent writing, communication and inter-personal skills. You will also have experience in innovative ways of working. You will have a strong interest in evidence-based practice.
