Transforming Police L&D Project launches second police learning and development survey

The Open University’s Centre for Police Research and Learning (CPRL) project team, working with their partners at MOPAC and survey specialists IFF, launched their planned second survey to look at the state of Learning and Development across police forces and agencies in England and Wales on Monday 25th June 2019.  The survey is now closed, and early indications suggest a really good response from across policing.

The survey seeks to obtain the views of strategic and operational L&D leads to provide an up to date understanding of L&D preparedness to meet the challenges facing policing, particularly those set out in the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) Vision 2025.  In addition the data from this second survey will allow the team to undertake a comparative analysis against the results of the previous survey into police L&D preparedness conducted last year (the results of which are available here: Baseline survey,) which will allow them to understand what has changed since the first survey was run.  The results will be used to help inform the future direction of policing at a local and national level, as part of the overall project’s delivery.  The survey results and the comparative analysis are expected to be published by the end of September.

Richard Harding from the CPRL project team said:  “this survey allows us to access the up to date thinking of police practitioners across England and Wales; the data it will provide will inform both our overall project outcomes and more generally policing within the UK using real world data.  This collaborative approach to working between police practitioners and academics is key to the success of this project and a core tenant of the CPRL’s working relationship with our policing partners.  We want to thank everyone who has contributed  and very much look forward to sharing our findings to support decision making and delivery within policing”

The OU research team are:  Prof Jean Hartley, Prof Denise Martin, Dr Loua Khalil and Richard Harding
