What is The Open University?

We were founded to make higher education available to all. We create supported distance learning courses that work for you. You don’t need to move away or travel to a campus, our online courses mean that you get to choose where and when to study. Here are some of the reasons to study with us:

  • We're the largest provider of part-time undergraduate higher education in Wales.
  • More than 14,500 students, from virtually every community in Wales, are currently studying with us, and more than two thirds of them are in employment while they study.
  • We're a world leader in providing innovative and flexible distance learning opportunities at higher-education level.
  • We produce more CEOs and Managing Directors for UK companies than any other UK University2.

Turn your HNC, HND or foundation degree into a degree

You may be able to transfer your college HE credits towards an OU qualification. This could mean you only need to study another 120 credits to get an honours degree, so you’re already part way there.

You’ll also have the flexibility to choose the intensity of your study. Our expert Student Support Team will provide help and advice to ensure you’re able to successfully balance study, work and other life commitments.
