All of this module’s study materials are online. Online materials are composed of pages of text with images, audio/video clips of 2-20 minutes long (all with transcripts/subtitles), diagrams, interactive media, animations and multiple choice self-assessed quizzes. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms. Printed materials of the module content on the webpage are provided.
This module provides 3 online skills workshops, 4 tutor group online tutorials and 7 module wide online tutorials. Each skills workshop and the 4 online tutor group tutorials are compulsory. The module wide tutorials are not compulsory, but attendance at tutorials will help you consolidate your learning.
You will be required to work with other students. This includes interacting in group discussions, sharing experiences and ideas about practical situations and providing supportive comments to others to help reflection.
You will be required to undertake at least 10 days work in a social work or social care setting.
The study materials contain some diagrams, graphs and photographs. Reading and interpreting these is an important part of the study of this module and is used to help you reflect on and consider aspects of practice and is assessed. Figure descriptions are provided for all figures.
You may be required to search for, and make use of, third party material online. Alternatives for required/assessed research material can be provided to enable you to meet the Learning Outcomes of the module.
This module has 8 Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs), which must be submitted online via the OU electronic TMA system, unless there are some difficulties which prevent you from doing so. In these circumstances, you must negotiate with your tutor to get their agreement so submit your assignment on paper. The module also has 3 interactive computer-marked assignments (iCMAs) and an End-of-Module Assessment all of which are submitted online.
You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.
