Accessibility statementAll of this module's study materials are online; this includes PDF, Word and ePub versions of any printed materials, plus some items only provided online. Online-only materials comprise pages of text with images, audio/video clips and diagrams. Online materials include links to external resources, prepared computer files, interactive quizzes, online forums and online tutorial rooms. Students can download (non-interactive) PDF versions of text and diagrams for offline use.
This module provides online learning events only. Although not compulsory, attendance at tutorials will help you consolidate your learning. Most tutorials are recorded for your later viewing.
You are required to work with one or more learners to complete this module. This will involve observing your learners doing mathematics tasks on 4–8 occasions during the module. You will need to make your own arrangements for this. It is feasible for friends or family members to act as your learners, but it is preferable to work with secondary-age children. If working with a learner is not feasible, then we can provide alternative assignments. Please contact your tutor to request this.
You will not be required to work with other students as part of the assessment for this module; however, you will be invited to participate in forum exchanges, small group and tutorial-wide discussions during online tutorials.
Mathematical and scientific symbols and expressions are used throughout the module and you will be required to use such notation within assessment.
The study materials include videos, diagrams, and graphs. Reading these is an important part of the study of this module. We provide descriptions for essential figures, and captions and transcripts for videos.
Alternatives for required/assessed research material can be provided to enable you to meet the learning outcomes of the module.
In the module, you will use specialist software, including Excel and GeoGebra. You could be asked to work with or adapt existing Excel and GeoGebra files or create your own.
We do not claim that GeoGebra is completely accessible, but it does offer users the option to use algebraic inputs and keyboard commands instead of operations using the computer mouse. Guidance on such things as keyboard shortcuts and the use of screen readers can be found in the GeoGebra manual located on its website.
This module has tutor-marked assignments (TMAs) and an end-of-module assessment (EMA) that you must submit via the online TMA/EMA service. We ask that you submit these as Word documents to facilitate targeted feedback from your tutor. We provide an assessment template document. Please let your tutor know if you have any accessibility concerns regarding the use of Word documents.
Use of Generative AI (GenAI) on this module falls under Category 2 (see OU guidance on Generative AI for students). This means that you may use GenAI on assignments in a limited way, within guidance and avoiding plagiarism, and you will need to acknowledge the use of GenAI.
You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.
