Mick McCormick

Mick McCormick is academic lead for Employability, providing academic leadership and expertise across The University – engaging with colleagues to ensure that The University delivers and embeds the culture change needed to increase the number of students achieving positive personal and career development outcomes.

A senior lecturer in social work at The Open University (OU), Mick began practising in 1986 and has worked mainly in the field of adult care – predominantly mental health, learning disability and substance misuse. After nearly 20 years as a social work practitioner and manager, he joined the OU social work programme in 2004.

Mick has provided expert academic input into two one-hour OU/BBC programmes on mental health: 'Sectioned' and 'Mental: a history of the madhouse'. More recently (2018), he contributed to the award-winning ‘Addicted Parents: Last Chance to Keep my Children’.
