Emma Curryer

Head of Department and Lecturer: The Open University Law School

Emma Curryer is a Head of Department and Lecturer within the Open University Law School.  She joined the OU in 2016 as an Associate Lecturer before becoming a Student Experience Manager in 2019 and then transferred to the Central Academic team in 2021. Emma set up and manages the Criminal Justice Clinic as part of the Open Justice Centre.  The Criminal Justice Clinic involves students working collaboratively  to research a live criminal case and see if there are grounds for appeal.    Emma’s research interests include areas of criminal law and practice such as failings in disclosure, youth crime and sentencing.  She is also involved in scholarship projects relating to employability and online teaching.  Emma is also a solicitor and before joining the Open University was a prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service.  She has also been a solicitor in general practice.
