CREATE: Effective communication in the digital era

It’s a big, big field, and a big, big, world!

What this course aims to do is to look at recent advances in those communication tools via the lens of their impact on our daily lives at home, at work and in society, as a learning journey of how communications in a digitised and hyperconnected world are changing the ways with think and behave online. You’ll learn about how online tools have added new complexities and challenges to more widely appreciated eases of communications and how traditional jobs are changing with the advent of digital.

During this course you’ll watch a number of videos and participate in a number of activities that illustrate how digital tools are changing communications and the world of work. Whatever your job role, you should find some useful insights for how understanding communication change can help you operate more effectively in a rapidly changing digital society and economy.

There are eight units in this course. They work broadly together in sets of two. Firstly, you focus on digital approaches to organisational communication – whether as small business owners or those building a brand online. Secondly, you will consider digital comms in the workplace, but via the lens of communication specialists. Then, you will look at how those different jigsaw pieces fit together as a communication whole for an organisation and help shape communications strategically, and finally, you will look out toward the macro sphere to consider how digital is developing public communication and impacts on our roles as citizens.

Unfortunately this course is temporarily unavailable. Please check back on Study at the OU in early 2023 when it will be back online
