Hidden History Project

The Research Group supported Changing Our Lives, the Sandwell based organisation representing people with learning disabilities, to research and undertake an oral history project, funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund, where young people with learning disabilities found out about the history of learning disabilities in their area. They looked at archives, visited a Workhouse Museum and Harperbury Hospital, and interviewed residents and staff of local long stay hospitals, now closed. The young people produced a film and wrote an article published in the British Journal of Learning Disabilities.
