The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has made a pre-announcement of four new calls under the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).

The calls will formally launch in October/November 2017, and will focus on mental health, education and skills, decent work and transitions towards sustainable and inclusive societies. Interdisciplinary perspectives from within and beyond the social sciences are actively sought.

A total budget of around £16 million has been announced. More information about the forthcoming calls can be found on the ESRC website.

The Global Challenges Research Fund is a five-year fund worth £1.5 billion, which aims to ensure the UK’s leading role in in addressing the problems faced by developing countries.

Earlier this year, a bid led by Professor Giles Mohan was awarded nearly £150,000 following a successful application to the GCRF’s Strategic Networks programme. The project, Migration for Inclusive African Growth Network, concerns the nature of new migrant flows to and within Africa, and the potential impacts on inclusive growth on the continent. More information about the project is available on the Research Council's UK website Gateway to Research.
