Innovation Caucus

24 April 2017

Professor David Wield, Open University

Innovation – in essence, the converting of ideas into value – represents a central engine of economic growth, one rooted in and shaped by economic, social and political forces. However, improving understanding of innovation as well as the economic and societal contexts in which it occurs is crucial if growth is to be realised.

The strength of the social science research base in the UK has a vital role to play in this, sharing what works in terms of innovation and – just as importantly – why. That’s why in 2015 Innovate UK and the ESRC came together to establish the Innovation Caucus, an initiative which aims to bridge the knowledge gap and support innovation-led growth by providing Innovate UK strategists, analysts and technologists with research-based insights.

We’re delighted that Professor David Wield has now been invited to join the multidisciplinary group of 66 leading scholars. Through expert insight, briefings, evidence reviews and commissioned research, members will help to shape the development and evaluation of policies and programmes for sustainable innovation-led economic growth.

You can find out more in Innovation for the Nation: Findings from the Innovation Caucus, an article written by the initiative's lead, Professor Tim Vorley.
