The Open University's Centre for Education and Educational Technology (CREET) has launched an International Education and Development (IED) research group. IED brings together academics working on projects which contribute to new understandings around the challenges of promoting, expanding and improving education across the world. Led by IKD member Dr Elizabeth Erling, IED is particularly interested in the collaborative development of contextually appropriate learning materials, and the role of open educational resources (OER) and innovative uses of information and communication technology (ICT) in supporting sustainable pedagogic transformation at scale.

IED researchers work in Europe, the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia. Activity in the group will be organised around four emerging themes: Global agendas and the role of education; New technologies and the creation of effective learning materials; Transforming pedagogy and transforming lives and; The institutional sustainability of pedagogic change.

A programme of seminars, workshops and reading groups has been planned for the year, and all who are interested in teaching and learning for development are welcome to join the events. Please contact Stephanie Edwards if you would like to join the mailing list.
