The Open University attended this year’s DSA Conference, which took place at the University of Bradford in September and focused on ‘Sustainability interrogated: societies, growth and social justice’.

Academics from across the globe joined the three-day conference, organised by the Development Studies Association (DSA), including presenters from a range of research institutions and NGOs from countries including Australia, Canada, America, South Africa and Indonesia.

A team of five from The Open University attended the event, and held an exhibition stand which enabled delegates to learn more about the OU's teaching, research and international development programmes.

Dr Philipp Horn, Research Associate at The Open University, convened a session looking at how inclusive urban development can be achieved through scaling up participatory and co-productive planning.

The event was also a great opportunity to learn more about the Global Challenges Research Fund, and in particular the four £16M ESRC calls due out in early November, which the OU is exploring. Incidentally, the ESRC confirmed that the ‘education’ theme within the calls has been pushed back to January and that funding will be spread relatively equally across the four themes.

The conference programme and a number of lectures have been recorded and made available to view online at the DSA conference website.
