Open University to co-host Pan-Commonwealth Forum 2019

29 October 2018

The Open University (OU) will co-host the ninth Pan-Commonwealth Forum (PCF9) on Open Learning with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL).

Taking place 9-12 September 2019, the Forum will be held at the historic Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland UK. This partnership celebrates COL's 30th anniversary and the OU's 50th anniversary year, and of the respective commitment to quality education and life-long learning.

First convened in Brunei Darussalam in 1999, PCF has since been organised in South Africa, New Zealand, Jamaica, UK, India, Nigeria and Malaysia. At the last conference over 500 delegates attended from 59 different countries including 49 Commonwealth Member States.

The focus of PCF9 will be Innovations for Quality Education and Lifelong Learning, and the aim will be to discuss, debate and showcase how innovations are improving the quality of education and creating new spaces for lifelong learning.

Sub-themes will run through the event programme, which include Opening Up Education - The Open University's expertise; Increasing employability skills; Equity and inclusion; and Technology. There are two additional areas of special focus - Education for Girls and Empowering Youth.

PCF9 will be a platform for ministers of education, government officials, academics and civil societies to discuss and develop a roadmap to future-proof our education systems and meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.
