The OU has been successful in its application to join IMISCOE (International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion), Europe's largest interdisciplinary research network in the field of migration, integration and diversity studies. Bringing together 38 European institutes and over 500 scholars from all over the world, the network focuses on comparative research and publications, and plays an important role in the mutual dialogue between researchers and society.

As a member of the board of directors, the OU is planning to host a workshop in advance of Migration, Diversity and the City – the network’s 14th annual conference taking place in Rotterdam in June – to encourage engagement and collaboration. (Keep an eye on our events page for details.) Any members of the OU engaged in related research are also encouraged to add their profile to IMISCOE’s database.

Professor Parvati Raghuram, supported by IDII and the PVC RAS (Pro-Vice-Chancellor – Research and Academic Strategy) office, led the application. As part of the interview process she was called upon to outline the OU’s areas of expertise, including members’ unique contribution to knowledge on education and migration, and work on migration, integration and citizenship.

Professor Raghuram commented:

'Migration remains one of the key concerns that the world faces and it’s good to be part of the premier European network on migration research. I’m sure we’ll make a significant contribution and that it will also bring us many opportunities – both for networking and for gaining research grants.'
