Student Shadows Visit the Library

For this autumn's Student Shadow visit we welcomed two students. Mark and Amy got to meet many Library staff throughout the day, participate in meetings as well as takeover our social media accounts. As part of their day they participated in several activities including: talking about how the Library supports module creation, shadowing the enquiries desk and learning about our 24/7 support for students, exploring student personas to provide insight on Library-authored skills activities, learning about their own digital capabilities with the Jisc tool, attending a Web Quality Improvement Group and meeting with Senior Library Managers to talk about issues related to their experience.

In a post-visit questionnaire, both rated the experience 5/5, said that it exceeded expectations and would be something they would recommend to other students. Their favourite parts of the day were shadowing the Help Desk and "Talking to staff and making suggestions and ideas with the staff to improve the library."  They also said that their perception of the Library had completely changed after their visit: "Before the visit - that it was a ghost town. It existed but was not much going on. [After the visit] WOW...how busy are you guys?" and "I honestly thought it would be full to the brim with books, but the variety of resources and the dedication it has towards making sure all its students (whether disabled or not) are provided with enough information is amazing!"
