OU Library listed in the top 5 most popular academic libraries

At least if we’re counting Twitter followers!

David Pride, Open University PhD candidate and member of CORE, a not-for-profit service delivered by the Open University and Jisc, recently did some data crunching to find the most popular academic library Twitter feeds. He discovered that the OU Library ranked fifth in the world and third in the UK with over 16 thousand followers, far outranking big names like Yale University and just behind Cambridge and the Bodleian.

The OU Library started using Twitter in 2008 and within a year had over 2000 followers. Our early adoption of the communication platform has led other academic libraries to follow us and emulate our success. From the beginning, we have used Twitter to engage with the whole OU community by sharing information, learning about our users’ experience with the Library, having conversations and participating in the huge world of ideas out there on social media. A team of Social Media Heroes in the Library create content and converse with our audience via Twitter and Facebook. They work hard to ensure the OU community and beyond learn about the huge breadth of activities we do and services we provide.

We wanted to share the good news and thank you all for keeping up with the news, tips and fun through our social media accounts. If you’re not already, help us get to number one by following @OU_Library on Twitter and OULibrary on Facebook!
