New 'Diverse voices, alternative sources' training session

Two students are sitting next to each other looking at separate computer screens. One is wearing a set of headphones. The Library’s Live Engagement team run regular online training sessions on subjects such as searching with library databases and how to construct references. They have been creating a new session called ‘Diverse voices, alternative sources’ to give students an introduction to the importance of being inclusive when conducting research, the challenges of identifying these voices and sources and some pointers on how to find them. The session will be 1 hour long and will be featured regularly within the Library’s programme of live online training sessions available to students and staff. The first session is being held on Thursday 2nd February at 19:30. We'll be making recordings of the sessions available for those who are unable to make them.

This new training session follows on from the Library’s launch of Diverse Voices - a collection of databases, websites and directories which explicitly seek to provide access to writers and resources from diverse groups who are typically under-represented in commercial publications. There is also a new activity available on Digital Skills for Study (DiSS) from Library Services, called Diverse voices, alternative sources (OU login required), which is designed to provide academics and students with strategies to uncover more diverse content and points of view.
