Professional biography

Barbara Conde Gafaro obtained a bachelor's degree in Modern Languages at the Pontificia Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia. Her joint research project was published in the Lingua Xaveriana Journal of the faculty of Communication and Language. Barbara also obtained a diploma for an online course on teaching Spanish as a foreign language at Universidad Externado de Colombia. After working as an English teacher for two years in Colombia, Barbara enrolled on the MA in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics at Coventry University. She completed her masters in 2016 with a dissertation on a blended MOOC integration, which received a distinction mark. By the end of her master studies, Barbara worked as a research assistant for the British Council ELTRA Awarded Project B-MELTT. 

She is currently studying for her PhD in Self-regulated Learning and MOOCs for Foreign Language Learning at The Open University. The award of a Leverhulme scholarship supported her research for three years. She has published two articles based on her MA dissertation and four papers related to her PhD. She has presented at national and international conferences. Barbara has also collaborated as a research assistant for the Erasmus+ MOOC2Move project. 

She is also working closely with the Director Research and Innovation of IET and Senior Research Manager of openTEL. She supports the organisation of openTEL events, manages the openTEL blog, provides openTEL related blog updates, and manages social media platforms on behalf of the openTEL community.
