My background is in teaching, publishing, broadcast journalism and now the Higher education sector with the OU. I’ve created teaching materials for years, but never with the scope afforded by the OU, so I am excited to delve deeper into new teaching innovations and find out how they can benefit our students. Having been in the position of a teacher, I now try to put myself in the shoes of a student and consider how teaching can be made more effective.
As part of the Learning Innovations team, I am helping with the design and pedagogical planning on the OpenCreate project. In this role, I am drawing on my experience of teaching, module production and supporting academic colleagues in developing MOOCs. I am particularly interested in the print-online dichotomy and balancing a technology’s novelty against its utility. I have also turned my hands to educational app development for mobiles in an attempt to utilise the platform in the best way possible.
