The Open University in Ireland receives Public Sector Magazine award

The Open University in Ireland is delighted to have been awarded the ‘Excellence in Online Learning Award’ by The Public Sector Magazine in Ireland.

The Public Sector magazine informs key decision makers across government and the public sector in Ireland. With this award, they are recognising the work the OU does for society in Ireland in relation to online learning.

This awards scheme reaches professionals and managers across Ireland and recognises excellence, quality and professionalism across key providers, including The Open University.

John D’Arcy,Director of The Open University in Ireland, said:

“The Open University sees the importance of providing opportunities for key decision makers in Ireland to develop their skills and be equipped with the knowledge to more effectively and efficiently do their jobs. With over 300,000 workers in the public sector in Ireland, there is a diverse range of jobs and skills that can be developed to prepare people for the future, however uncertain that may be at this stage.”

The Open University prides itself on the way it works with the public sector to help provide solutions to the challenges that businesses have faced during the pandemic alongside the way we have helped to provide personal development opportunities for staff within these same businesses. We provide a range of qualifications and training materials for those in roles across the public sector.

The award comes off the back of a year in which The Open University has expanded the way in which it tries to help people succeed and continues to open access to education across the island of Ireland. We have helped organisations and individuals achieve their ambitions and contributed significantly to wider society through a variety of new initiatives and programmes over the last year. One such initiative has been the provision of almost 1,000 free places on a variety of short courses, microcredentials and postgraduate certificates in Northern Ireland through its work with the Department for the Economy. Alongside this we continue to open up access to education with over 239,000 people utilising The Open University’s free learning platform OpenLearn across Ireland throughout 2020.

Our work helping people achieve their ambitions is continuing to evolve and we are delighted to accept this award and be recognised by The Public Sector Magazine in this way.
