Why do your research degree at The Open University?

The OU Graduate School encompasses a community of around 900 postgraduate research students (PGRS): some at our campus in Milton Keynes and others around the globe and linked through our Affiliated Research Centre programme.

We ranked in the top third of UK universities in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 using the Times Higher Education Power Score.

In the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2019, the OU came 5th out of 103 institutions for student satisfaction.

Our research students are supervised by academics who are leading experts in their disciplines and benefit from a comprehensive programme of research skills training.

They have access to laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment for research into space, the environment, brain activity, music and more, as well as our world-leading online technical support and library facilities.

Research students can enhance their employability with tailored three-month paid internships in business or industry, and one-to-one consultations with the OU Careers Advisory Service.
