Research Excellence Awards

The OU Research Excellence Awards recognise outstanding research and celebrate achievement within the OU research environment.

They began in 2018, followed by a special 2019 programme which featured a 50th Anniversary Prize.

The Awards are back again for 2022 and this year the categories include:

  • Outstanding Research Project
  • Environmental Sustainability Award
  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award
  • Best External Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange
  • Outstanding impact on: 
    • Research on Society and Prosperity, or
    • Research on Teaching, Curriculum and Students
  • Covid-19 Award
  • Early Career Researcher
  • Best Research Support Team
  • PGR-related awards: 
    • PRG Student Awards
    • Outstanding Supervisor Award
  • Best Technician/Technical Team of the year

The winners will be announced at a awards ceremony in London, in September.

REF 2021 recognises 82% of OU research impact as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’

The Open University (OU)’s commitment to research and societal impact is recognised today (Thursday 12 May), with 82% of its research impact assessed to be ‘world-leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*) by the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.
