Kim is a Lecturer on the Education Studies (Primary) programme. She joined the Open University in 2014 and has worked on a range of Modules across the BA (Hons) Education Studies (Primary) programme. She currently Chairs E214: Equality, Participation and Inclusion. She is also one of the authors of the Level 3 Module on Comparative Studies in Primary Education which is currently in production.
Before she came to the OU Kim was a Lecturer and Teacher Tutor at Roehampton University across the Primary Education Programmes. She taught Special and Inclusive Education (SIE) on the BA (Hons) with QTS and the Masters programmes as well as supporting trainee teachers on the PGCE programme.
As a Primary educator she taught in Primary schools for 20 years in Inner London where she led inclusion and was a SENCO, Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher. She also set up resourced provision within a mainstream school for learners with language and communication difficulties. She received an award for her contributions to inclusive provision as a Teacher of the Year finalist in 2009.
Kim’s research interests focus on special educational needs, inclusive education and leadership in Primary Schools. She started her EdD in 2015 and her research explores the role of Governing Boards in developing ‘vision’ and supporting children considered to have Special Educational Needs. She has been invited to present the findings from the pilot study of her Doctorate at the BELMAS Conference in July 2017.
Kim has taught Special and Inclusive education on undergraduate, postgraduate and Masters teaching education programmes. She also has interests in Leadership and Management issues in Primary Education.
Kim has supported Schools to develop their practice in areas relating to her research interests. She has undertaken a range of scholarship projects since 2014 to support equality, diversity and widening access initiatives within the OU.
Kim has also worked with schools to support them to develop Action Research projects.
