Following general nurse training at the Royal Free Hospital, I went on to qualify as a midwife and later a health visitor. After completing an Open University BA (Hons) I undertook completed a PGDE in 1992 and an MSc (Nursing) in 1994. I was awarded my Doctorate in 2008 for my thesis entitled “Birth Control Nursing in the Marie Stopes Mothers Clinics 1921-1931”.
I am a member of the Committee for the UK Association for the History of Nursing (Constituent Association of the European Nursing History Group) anda member of the Steering Group the UK Centre for the History of Nursing and Midwifery.
Since 2008 I have been a Learning Representative for the Royal College of Nursing in the Eastern Region
