Professional biography

My current focus is on creating short courses in Intercultural Competence in a range of professional settings at the Open Centre for Languages and Cultures. 

Before joining the OU in September 2020, I was a Research Assistant and later Lecturer in Cross-Cultural Communication at the department of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University. With local and international colleagues I worked on the Erasmus+ -funded project ‘Critical Skills for Life and Work’  and on the “Interaction, Dementia and Engagement in the Arts” project funded by the British Academy.

I was awarded a PhD in Management and Business for my thesis “Beyond the Question: A discursive study of Q & A Sequences in Oral Financial Results Presentations” by Newcastle University Business School in February 2020. 


Teaching interests

I am currently part of the module team for L161: Languages and Cultures as well as for LB170: Communication Skills for Business and Management. 

Before joinging the OU, I have taught seminars and lectures as part of degrees in Cross-Cultural Communication, International Business Managament, and Media and PR. Module titles included for example "Managing across Cultures", "Culture, Interculturality and Identity" and "Corporate Financial Communication". 

I have supervised UG and PG-level dissertations in Management Studies as well as Cross-Cultural Communication.
