Overview

In this session, we will consider the responsibilities of scholarship researchers to be ethical and to protect participant data. The Open University has approval procedures that help ensure that all research, including scholarship research, meets these obligations. Starting from a consideration of research design, we will guide you through the processes involved to help you gain the approvals that your project will need.

Learning objectives

To understand:

  • The responsibilities that project leads have towards participants in scholarship projects
  • The Student Research Project Panel (SRPP) application process
  • The Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) review process
  • The correct procedure for storing and handling data – Data Protection

About the facilitators

Mark Jones and Sue Pawley are the Directors of eSTEeM and have extensive backgrounds in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
