11th December 2014

The Open University has been named amongst 73 universities and colleges that will receive a share of £200 million funding for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) teaching capital projects during 2015-16.

HEFCE logoThe HEFCE scheme is intended to ensure that higher education responds effectively to the increase in demand for STEM studies by developing facilities that will support an increased flow of highly employable graduates into industry.

Led by eSTEeM, the proposal centres around the creation of an OpenSTEM Laboratory which will see expansion into new areas of OU curriculum, for which the OU has been allocated £2.7 million.
