MAP 215-50

Our MAP215-50 mass spectrometer has recently (2019) had an upgraded extraction line installed.

Metal extraction system connected to the MAP Mass spectromter

The mass spectrometer can be coupled with any of our laser systems allowing a range of analysis to be made.

Computer and electronics units for the MAP Mass spectromter

The extraction system is automatically controlled via LabVIEW and consists of 2 sample ports, 2 all metal SAES getters (one at room temperature and one at 450°C) and is calibrated to allow measurement of He, Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe.

Metal liquid nitrogen trap which forms part of the gas clean up system of the mass spectrometer

Liquid nitrogen cold traps on each sample port allow additional clean up of gases, particularly when analysing larger volumes of material such as when step-heating basaltic groundmass.
