Crichton Conversation with Professor Dame Anne Glover:
The Value of Evidence - The Annual Royal Society of Edinburgh Lecture

Professor Dame Anne Glover, an OU honorary graduate, will deliver this final lecture of the 2019/2020 Crichton Conversation series. The OU is pleased to support this event.

In a world where we are commonly faced with dramatically different views and unchallenged fake news, we need to be able to have confidence in trusted sources of evidence. Evidence can be generated from lots of different sources but much of it comes from the knowledge generated by research.

This Conversation will explore what value such evidence might have for society and when it should and shouldn’t be used to develop government policies.

Anne Glover is the President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a trustee of many charities.

She has been an effective and well respected ambassador for European science. She is a molecular biologist who has studied how we respond to stress at the molecular level. She was the first Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission (2012-2015). Prior to that, she was the first Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland.

Tickets are £6. Booking details are on the Crichton Foundation website

There's a range of free learning about fake news on the OU's free learning site, OpenLearn
