The Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSW) Conference 2022: Shaping our Future is open to all final year students and newly qualified social workers from universities across Scotland. 

This free online conference is hosted by The Open University in Scotland and includes a range of workshops. 

Keynotes include:

  • An address from Iona Colvin (Chief Social Work Adviser)
  • Dr Chijioke Obasi (University of West of Scotland): Experiences of Black Social Workers
  • Prof Neil Thompson (OU visiting professor): Anti-Racist Social Work
  • Dr Natalia Farmer and Olivia Ndoti (Glasgow Caledonian University): No Recourse to Public Funds
  • Update on the new newly NQSW supported year
  • The latest update on the NQSW research study
  • Key messages for practice from service users and carers group

A range of parallel workshops being offered twice to enable fuller participation to discuss topics including: qualifying in a pandemic; experiences of black social workers; the Scottish Association of Social Work 'Racism in Scotland' report; resilience and wellbeing; and learning from the experiences of newly qualified social workers. 

This event is free of charge. Register by 5 May via the Eventbrite page for the NQSW Conference.
The final programme will be released at the end of April, when you will also be able to select workshops. Your registration will ensure you automatically receive notification of the workshops.

The 2022 NQSW conference is hosted by The Open University and delivered in partnership by the Heads of Social Work Education, The Institute for Research in Social Services (IRISS), Scottish Government’s Office of the Chief Social Work Adviser (OCSWA), the Scottish Association of Social Work (SASW), Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and Social Work Scotland.
