A short breaks for carers research and practice development exchange event.

If you are a carer, or you are involved in research, policy development, assessment and support planning, commissioning or service delivery for carers, this event will be of interest to you.

Improving the availability, choice and quality of short breaks for carers is vitally important if we are to effectively support them to look after their own health and have a life of their own alongside their caring responsibilities. COVID-19 has necessitated a rapid transformation of the ways we support carers and individuals with complex care needs to take a short break, including breaks delivered via online resources or taken outdoors.

At this event there will be opportunities to hear from carers and short break providers, commissioners and researchers.

The purpose of this event is to:
• Share knowledge and experience about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on short breaks and respite care
• Highlight examples of creative approaches to breaks provision that have developed during the pandemic
• Capture what matters, going forward, to reflect the needs and preferences of those using short breaks
• Explore lessons for future policy and practice development

To register for this free event, please go to the Eventbrite page for the Short Breaks event

This event is being hosted by the UK Short Breaks Research and Practice Development Group, which aims to take forward research and practice on meaningful short breaks/respite care.

The group includes members from The Open University in Scotland, University of Strathclyde, Bangor University (Wales). It also includes Shared Care Scotland, which operates the Short Breaks Fund on behalf of the National Carers Organisations and the Scottish Government.
