How we can help you

The Open University in Scotland has proven expertise in research and knowledge exchange which can benefit organisations throughout the whole of Scotland.

Our vibrant research community engages in world-class research and innovation which has applications and impact in the real world.

There are many different ways we can work together to access our knowledge base, and across a whole range of specialisms and disciplines, to help meet your organisation’s needs.

Consultancy

Three seated people in conversationWe regularly engage in one-off or longer consultancies with businesses and other bodies, to provide expert applied advice and solutions to a range of societal challenges.

Whether it’s in relation to developing new policies in the workplace, supporting the third sector or helping organisations with their net zero climate targets, we can offer support and guidance in projects tailored to your requirements, helping you to think through those issues and move forward.

Innovation support in the workplace

The Open University in Scotland has a successful track record of collaborating with Scottish small and medium-sized companies to research new products, services or processes.

There are various potential funding options for this work, which enables Scottish companies to collaborate with experts from The Open University, and to use innovative research and development solutions that will benefit the business, the institutions and the Scottish economy.

Research and development

We are always keen to consider potential collaborations around research, especially applied research where the findings can be readily applied in your own context.

Our specialisms include health, social care and wellbeing, law and citizenship, social policy, support for businesses, applying the arts in various contexts, and opportunities covering the sciences, technology and engineering.

Knowledge exchange

We’re very keen to regularly share what we’ve discovered, or make informed contributions to contemporary topics and debates in Scotland.

Very often that works best when done in partnership with others, such as businesses, the public sector or third sector.

Find out more about how we engage with the public and policymakers, and how we support others with our expertise, in this Knowledge exchange section of our website.
