Web conferencing: the technical and social challenges

Topic Description

Web conferencing technologies are now widely available and are used for a variety of purposes. Web conferencing can be used for seminars and tutorials in an online educational context and also for conducting real-time meetings for remote teams in a commercial environment. Previous studies have shown that both technical and social issues effect the success of web conferencing, and influence the experiences of those taking part.  This research will explore these issues in educational and/or commercial settings, and the challenges and their significance within different contexts. The project will aim to inform educators developing learning designs and/or businesses aiming to improve their practices.

Skills Required:

Ideally you should have a degree in Computing, Education or a related subject, possibly with a Masters level qualification or equivalent professional experience. Prior experience of relevant research methods would be beneficial.
