Mathematical and Theoretical Biology Colloquium - Enhanced resolution epigenetic profiling in regulatory elements reveals novel differential methylation in Type 2 Diabetes

Dates
Tuesday, January 18, 2022 - 14:00 to 15:00

Speaker:   Colette Christiansen (King's College + Open University)

Abstract: Type 2 Diabetes is a global health concern, with diabetics susceptible to a number of complications including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, blindness, deafness and amputation.  It is an illness that can be managed well if diagnosed early.  This talk is about a case control and discordant twin analysis of DNA methylation changes in diabetics.  Understanding biological changes that occur with diabetes helps to better understand the development of the disease and how it leads to complications.
