Communicating statistics to the media

Professor Kevin McConway is the guest speaker in the latest edition of the podcast Stats + Stories speaking on Sounding human when talking about statistics. This podcast series is produced by the American Statistical Association and Miami University, Ohio. The episode description says

Communicating statistics effectively can be a difficult task; it can be hard to know how much information someone needs in order to understand a particular set of numbers. Jargon can be another stumbling block to clearly communicating what a statistical finding means. Communicating stats clearly is the focus of this episode of Stats and Stories with guest Kevin McConway.

The subject of the podcast is based on McConway's article Sound human, steer clear of jargon, and be prepared co-authored with Professor David Spiegelhalter and published in Significance, March 2021. This work also appeared on a London School of Economics blog Communicating statistics through the media in the time of COVID-19 (February 2021) and originally on Spiegelhalter's blog Top tips to statisticians communicating through the media, especially in the time of COVID-19 (January 2021).
