Louise Casella, Director of The Open University in Wales said:
“The coronavirus pandemic has touched every aspect of Welsh life. Welsh universities, their students and staff have all been affected.
“At The OU in Wales in 2020, our team moved to home-working practically overnight. We ensured that teaching and student support remained our top priority. Today’s result is testament to the hard work, commitment, and drive of those who teach and support our students.
“We’ve also been working with partners in other universities to share resources, ideas and skills to support their temporary move to online teaching during the covid crisis.”
The OU in Wales has seen student numbers more than double since 2017/18 as a growing number turn to supported online and distance learning to give them more flexible way to study. The support made available by the Welsh Government to part-time students since 2018 has ensured that people from a wide range of backgrounds are able to enter and succeed in higher education.
