Getting you ready for work

Employers put work experience at the top of their wish list when they recruit graduates. As one of our students, we can help you get work experience that will make you stand out from the crowd.

We pay your expenses and sort out any adjustments you need.

We may be able to offer you a 'virtual' placement, where you will be able to get experience while working from home.

GROW – Graduate Opportunities Work Experience

Did you complete your studies with the Open University in Wales since 2019 or are you about to complete in 2021?

Are you also currently unemployed or feel you are underemployed – not doing a job related to your skills or the qualifications you have gained? The GROW project could help.

GROW (Graduate Opportunities Work Experience) is a HEFCW-funded project set up in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the impact this has had on graduates looking for work.

We can offer one-to-one support from an advisor and a range of resources to help you increase your confidence, understand recruitment and selection, and look for career routes.

GROW can also fund work experience placements with employers in different sectors. This can

  • give you an insight into how an organisation operates,
  • allow you to apply your knowledge and skills in a work setting
  • give you real-life examples of work you have done to use in interviews.

To find out more, fill in this registration form and we’ll contact you to explain the next steps. Or you can e-mail us at graduates-wales@open.ac.uk

If you’re an employer who could host a fully-funded work experience placement for a graduate, please complete a form or e-mail us at graduates-wales@open.ac.uk

The GROW project is open to people who have completed their studies since 2019 or are expected to complete this year. This includes all modes of study (full time and part-time) and levels (certificates, diplomas, first degree, other undergraduate, and post-graduate).

Venture Graduates

We’re just one of several universities working in the Cardiff Capital region to help local employers find graduates. You can find out more on the Venture Graduates website and follow the scheme on Twitter .

Open University virtual internships

We’re always looking to put our students in touch with employers. Instead of being based at the workplace, you'll work online from home in the same way as you study as an OU student. Just like an internship at a workplace, you'll work on projects and tasks given to you by an employer and have regular catch-ups and support from them.
