I have just done a review of a charming book on the Libyan desert by a man called Bagnold who first proved that one can motor up sand dunes. Did you know the Libyan desert is larger than India? He gives very vivid pictures of its loveliness, and the old slave route from Kordofan to Cairo, marked by millions of camel skeletons.
