Wilfrid Wilson Gibson : Battle

'Thank you very much for "Battle" [W. W. Gibson], but curse this nib. To me it is not as good as Housman; some things appeal to me for setting, but not strongly[.] The first is pretty and “Deaf” and “Comrades” I like best. The last is good too … cheero for Gibson. I lent "Battle" to my platoon sergeant for an experiment; and he particularly chose “Comrades”, which pleased me … Did you read any account of that Asquith gathering of the poets to read their own things? The Cathedral is not so fine as Gloucester, but the surroundings thereof, and the town beat ours … I bought Cobbett’s "Rural Rides", in Nelson 6d edition, there are am getting on very well with it …’
