Leonard Woolf to Margery Perham, 24 August 1955:
'Did you ever come across [Charles] Temple, who was in the Nigerian Civil Service [...] He read Empire and Commerce after his retirement and when he lived in Granada; hearing that Virginia and I were going to stay in the mountains above, he asked us to come and spend the night at his house. I had a long talk with him and he was very bitter against [Lord] Lugard [imperialist attacked by Woolf in text], claiming that a great deal of the credit for indirect rule etc., whicb Lugard claimed himself, ought to have gone to him, Temple.'
