'I have read Sous Verdun which I liked very much and I am reading Ma Piece which I'm not sure I don't like still better ... It is very early in the morning. Too early to write a letter. But I may not have time later. How exciting all books about the beginning of the war are and how odd it is that they all become dull in just the same way as soon as La Guerre de tranchees begins. It isn't odd at all but inevitable.'
