Maria Hack : Geological Sketches and Glimpses of the ancient Earth

'I am so glad thou has been reading some works on Geology. 'Geological Sketches' was the first I ever read; it is an excellent preliminary work, and interested me so much that I have been through it several times. Now I think a work written expressly for children is best suited to one's capacity as a beginner; for that capacity is, on first investigating a science, only prepared to receive the simplest and most childish truths - at least I think a more impressive and useful knowledge of the subject is to be obtained at commencing at the lowest point, and gradually working upwards.'

Century: 1800-1849     Reader/Listener/Group: Eliza Ellis      Print: Book
