Third Sector Internships Scotland (TSIS) helps students find paid work experience in charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises.  It offers outstanding opportunities for all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate students to develop skills and experience whilst contributing to the vital work of Scotland’s third sector.

A new set of 23 paid internships for summer 2013, spread across Scotland, has just been added to the TSIS website.  These include both full-time and part-time opportunities.

The Volunteer Centre in Glasgow are looking for up to 15,000 friendly people to become volunteers at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Not all the roles will be high profile or on the front line, and many might be away from the athletes.  They are all, however, crucial to making sure the Games run smoothly.  Some roles will include welcoming athletes at the airport or the athletes’ village, helping behind the scenes or directing people at the venues.

There will also be specialist roles that need previous experience or qualifications in sport or first aid.  But the vast majority of roles just need friendly folk.

You’ll have to give up some of your own time for training and take annual leave (if working) when the Games are on and you will need to cover your travel and accommodation costs (at Games times, however, the cost of specific public transport around Glasgow venues will be covered for volunteers).

This is the biggest sporting and cultural event ever held in Scotland, and it’s a great chance to be part of Glasgow’s proudest moment.

Applications are open until 28th February 2013 so you only have a limited time to apply, so get online and fill out your application form.

Are you interested in communicating science to a young audience?  Lab in a Lorry needs volunteers with a scientific background for events across the North West of England and Scotland during school term time.

Lab in a Lorry is an interactive mobile laboratory which gives young people aged 11-14 the opportunity to explore science through open-ended experiments.  Volunteers guide the students through the experiments (optoelectronics and medicine, sound and resonance, light scattering and colours, oil and viscous liquids) and make sure everyone gets involved through hands-on experience.

You would be asked to oversee an experiment for the day. You will be sent all the background material in advance and on the morning of an event you receive full training on the lab.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one full school day, but you can do as many days as you like.  In return you’ll have a rewarding and unforgettable experience, receive some IOP (Institute of Physics) freebies and be awarded affiliate membership to the Institute of Physics for a year.

For more information,  tour details and to register visit Lab in a Lorry.
