The book could have been either 'Among the Wild Tribes of the Afghan Frontier' (London: Seeley Service, 1908) or 'Things Seen in Northern India' (London: Seeley Service, 1912) written by Theodore Leighton Pennell, medical missionary at Bannu on the North-West Frontier. He married Cornelia's sister Alice in 1908 and died of blood poisoning in 1912.
