Acc. to Note 1 to Letter 496, RLS's mother recorded that he was to leave home for London on 22 December [1877] at night.
RLS seems to be answering an RE, a recent letter from his mother in which she consults him about the composition of a list of friends/acquaintances (guest list? Names of suitable recipients of author’s copies, RLS’s or his father’s?).
