'Very many thanks for the book ["The Country House"] and its dedication—it makes me very proud. I received it on Friday and began reading it straight off, but it was too long to finish at one sitting so went on till Saturday morning. I should have liked it better if there had been a second volume of three hundred pages to have kept me over Sunday in "A Country House". Some day when the weather grows warmer and longer days give one more leisure I hope to read it again in slower fashion as the better to enjoy your writing. The manner is very charming and is your own: this is like "The Man of Property", a Galsworthy book—a curiously refreshing harmonious piece of work.'
